Backtrack is must-have for the information security field. It contains a bundle of inbuilt tools and exploits that help for computer security. For the beginners, it's an honest start. I even have uploaded the GNOME version of Backtrack. there's also a KDE version of backtrack in the market. Backtrack is essentially supported Ubuntu. There are tons of software that are installed on Ubuntu to facilitate information security experts.
It contains network testing tools, packets sniffing, and tons of packs.
